Leek sprouts have an incredible flavour, if you love onion, as we do. Related to Onion and Garlic, and part of the Allium family. Leek contains large quantities of the sulfur-containing compound allicin that is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, as well as helping to neutralise dangerous free radicals in your body quicker than any other sulfur-containing compound. Research suggests we should include at least one serving on an allium plant in our diet every day. Kaempferol, a natural flavanone, is known to promote a healthy heart by protecting the blood vessel linings from damage, may help fight cancer, and is impressively good at supporting general health. Add to that huge doses of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, as well as rich sources of Vitamins A and K. Phew. This one packs a nutrient punch. It tastes like fresh sweet onion. A great way to add flavour to salads, omelettes, and soups, and a super tasty garnish. The seed is extremely hard to source and very expensive, although it is so concentrated in nutrients and flavour that you only need a small amount. We think it’s worth it.
