Milder than many sprouts Red Beet has a delicious earthy taste and the most incredible bright colour. Beet is well known for treating many conditions, especially those related to the digestion and the blood. Beetroot juice has long been considered a natural aphrodisiac. They can be eaten raw in salads and we have been putting it on toast, jacket potatoes and sprinkling it over roasted vegetables. It gives a deep rich flavour and adds a beautiful garnish. This seed can be used to grow beet greens or beet sprouts but please note that growing these as sprouts will produce a lower yield than growing them as microgreens.

What are the micro green instructions?
Hi Paul 🙂
Here are the instructions:
1. Plant 2-3 teaspoons of seed (for a 5×5 inch Tray) on a thoroughly moistened medium (soil/coconut coir etc).
2. Cover with another tray, or a plate – to keep light out and moisture in.
3. Keep the soil (or other medium) moist by watering lightly as needed. Don’t drench!
4. When your plants have begun to show leaves, remove cover and move your crop to a well-lit location.
5. Harvest when the leaves are open and an inch or three tall (day 5-14).
6. Cut just above the soil, with a scissors or sharp knife.

Beetroots have been a challenge, but worthwhile on the whole. The flavour of the sprouts is completely beetroot. The 2 downsides are that they have been slow to sprout – even when done over summer solstice on an ideal warm sunny windowsill – and half the seeds don’t sprout.
However even the unsprouted seeds add a crunchy nutty surprise to any salad so are still a delight.

I bought these for growing beetroot from rather than micro-greens and they are doing great so far. In fact as well as the top quality of their products for sprouting with effectively 100% germination rate (so no mung bean ‘stones’ in your mouth, ever) I always if possible choose their products over commercial seeds for this as they consistently out-perform them. I sow rocket in patches on the allotment and have just harvested the first Rambo radishes which are fabulous, yet (for me) a consistent failure with seeds from eg Wilko et al (NB the China Rose give longer white radishes which did not work for me). Also embarrassingly generous customer service the second there is the slightest problem – I shall not be accepting any more discounts in future inc for writing this review! 🙂

I love the flavour of theses micro greens which grow speedily on my sunny windowsill. They are so tasty and make a beautiful garnish to salads and sprinkled upon my morning avocado. A great and healthy way to start the day! Delicious!
